Azimut’s Grande 36M received the Best of Show award at the 64th annual FLIBS, beating out seven other finalists for the coveted title. The 118-footer, part of the Italian yard’s popular Grande line, was launched in Viareggio last August but made its U.S. debut at the world’s largest in-water boat show last week.
Penned by Alberto Mancini, the superyacht’s exterior is replete with the sleek and sinuous lines synonymous with Azimut’s Grande designs. She sports a displacement-to-planing hull designed in partnership with Pierluigi Ausonio, along with a lightweight superstructure made from a mix of GRP and carbon fiber. Together, this improves the vessel’s efficiency while reducing its carbon footprint. In fact, Azimut claims the Grande 36M can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 30 percent compared to boats of the same size with traditional chine hulls.
In addition, the Grande 36M’s groundbreaking open-plan layout includes areas that have not previously existed on yachts of this size, according to Azimut. She sports a semi-walkaround upper deck and an abundance of glazing to better connect seafarers with the sea. She also sports a stylish interior designed by Achille Salvagni.
“This model, premiering here at FLIBS, is already drawing incredible interest and this award is the best way to welcome her successful debut in the U.S. market,” Federico Ferrante, president of Azimut Benetti Americas, said in a statement.
The Best of Show competition celebrates the most impressive models at FLIBS, focusing on the performance, design, technology, and architecture of each vessel. The award was determined by a panel of independent judges, including nautical designer Dan Lenard of Nuvolari Lenard Designs, Captain Kerry of Below Deck Adventure, Nascar legend Michael Waltrip, and former motocross great Ricky Carmichael. Other notable finalists included the Benetti 34M Oasis, Princess Y95, wallywhy150, and Sunreef 80 Eco.
“Honoring Azimut and their remarkable team with this accolade at FLIBS signifies our commitment to leading the way in the world of boating and maritime excellence, and all the exceptional vessels showcased here are a testament to this dedication,” added Phil Purcell, CEO and president of the Marine Industries Association of South Florida.
