The 54th Aegean Rally is an annual sailing event organized by HORC (the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club). It is the first ever offshore regatta that took place in Greece and since 1964 the best crews and yachts of the country compete in 100 nautical mile long legs, visiting two or three islands in the Aegean Sea. This year, the race visited Syros, Chios and Skyros, for the first time, a total course of over 300 nautical miles, sailing against the Meltemi and the Aegean waves. The starting gun fired Friday 14 of July and the event run until Sunday 23 of July.
Numerous events and local festivities welcome the Aegean Rally sailors in every stop over, making it a pleasant stay for the participants. Main sponsor of the event is the interntional firm Jotun.
After four races, and a hard fought regatta, winner of the 54th Aegean Rally was the yacht Optimum3 skippered by Nikos Lazos and Pericles Livas. The prize giving ceremony took place at the Aegean Naval Command on Monday 24 of July.
