Heesen launches 50m Project Boreas

Dutch yard Heesen has launched the 49.8-metre motor yacht Project Boreas at its shipyard in Oss.

Previously known as Hull 18650, the Omega Architects-designed superyacht will remain at the yard for commissioning before departing to Hellevoetsluis for sea trials. She will be delivered to her owner next month.

Project Boreas was started on-spec and sold in 2017 to a client who is described as “an experienced sailing yacht owner”.

Comprised of an aluminium fast displacement hull developed by Van Oossanen Naval Architects and an aluminium superstructure, Project Boreas is based on the Nova Plus platform and inherits a striking exterior profile from her predecessor, Home. She is finished in metallic grey, custom-made to match the owner's car.

Heesen’s Mark Cavendish told BOAT International, “The owner has had several large sailing yachts and a few small runarounds before, but this is his first large motor yacht."

Power comes from a pair of MTU 12V2000 M72 engines for a top speed of just under 20 knots. When trimmed back to 12 knots, this 499GT yacht will boast a cruising range of 3,750 nautical miles.

Other superyacht projects currently under development at the Dutch yard include the 80-metre Project Cosmos which will become Heesen's largest yacht to date.
