Palmer Johnson broke the mould when it delivered the 49.5-metre superyacht Khalilah. She was originally planned to be the first unit from the Palmer Johnson 48 Supersport series, but subsequent projects were put on hold, meaning that this unique twist on the superyacht experience is truly that – unique.
The superyacht Khalilah has an exterior design that screams performance; she has been penned with taught muscular lines and a reverse bow that give her an athletic and border-line aggressive profile. She’s built to perform and has been equipped with two MTU engines that give her a cruising speed of 28 knots and a top speed of 32 knots. It’s not just her lines that are eye-catching though, as Palmer Johnson has finished Khalilah with a golden palette for both her hull and superstructure.
Khalilah’s finish is bold and striking and only recently been replicated by Tecnomar as a colourway for its 19.2-metre Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 tender – which once again has been built for speed, boasting a top speed of 60 knots.
For such an atypical superyacht, it’s only fitting that Khalilah’s interior design is just as charismatic. The task was entrusted to the Italian studio Luxury Projects and as Fraser, her charter CA, describes, the result is a “cool, funky and fun interior” design.
With 485 GT to play with, Luxury Projects wrote quirky into every corner, making great use of bold vivid colours to put a contemporary twist on the classic Art Deco era. The superyacht Khalilah can accommodate as many 11 guests, who’ll reside in one of her five staterooms. Her master suite is nothing short of sublime, and has been finished with ornately carved wooden features and embossed golden sheets.
The master suite boasts a large dressing area as well as a generous ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower and his and hers basins. The sleeping quarter of the suite has large windows that flood the space with natural light. The remaining four guest suites are all distinctive and furnished in a way to bring a unique charm.
Khalilah has not one but two saloons; the larger one is situated on the main deck and has been wrapped in glass to provide guests with panoramic views while underway. The space is home to large settees and a fully serviced bar.
