Dixon Yacht Design reveals 56m sailing yacht created to explore

Dixon Yacht Design has revealed a 56-metre flybridge ketch concept "designed for exploration in comfort". The model, known as Explorer 56, will be built in aluminium alloy to Polar Code Category C, offering high and low latitude cruising in the summer months.

"This is the perfect yacht for a customer passionate about sailing without compromising on living space and functionality," explained Anders Berg, partner at Dixon Yacht Design. "She is very much an inside-outside concept."

Explorer 56 "shares design characteristics associated with motor yachts", including an on-deck main saloon with sofa seating, a formal dining area and a navigation bridge. Accommodation is across five cabins, including a full-width owner's cabin with direct access to the aft deck (the yacht's main convivial area).

Aft deck renderings reveal an al fresco lounge area, sunloungers and a partially recessed Jacuzzi. Meanwhile, the flybridge is arranged with twin helm stations, another Jacuzzi and "generous entertainment space".

Beneath the foredeck is a garage with capacity for two 6.3-metre tenders, while a dedicated Jet Ski garage can be found under the aft deck. An Opacmare Transformer functions as a tender lift and offers guests direct access to the water.

Explorer 56 also benefits from an "integrated energy recovery system", fitted with two SPS Hundested 400kWh sail drive units that can provide either propulsion or electricity generation whilst the yacht is sailing.

This follows Latitude Yachts' reveal of "the world's first sports catamaran" concept Laniakea, with naval architecture by Dixon Yacht Design.
