Southampton was the choice of the Sunseeker team for the debut of the brand new Manhattan 53.
In the major boat shows we had the opportunity to take a closer look at the new member of Sunseeker’s Flybridge range. The British boatbuilders have entered a new era and, judging from figures and statistics, they are going strong.
The new Manhattan 53 is next year’s talk of the town for this boat yard which was founded by the entrepreneur RobertBraithwaite and is based in Poole, England. She is a fly bridge with a 18.35 metre LOA and a 4.70 metre beam. Her displacement reaches 27.4 tons and her draught is 1.26 metres. The engine house hosts 1600hp engines and can be customised to suit the owner’s needs and preferences. The two fuel tanks are made of aluminium and feature electronic controls and a special filter.
BelowDecks
Taking a closer look (taken in Genoa) below decks we find great sound-insulation, fire safety systems as well as 12V ventilators. It is true that the British generally place more emphasis on the arrangement of the battery elements or the quality of materials that are not seen than the shape of the fuel cock. The engine power is transferred to the shaft drives that lead to four-wing propellers. To further optimise cruising the skipper can also use the hydraulic trim tabs. The helm is made of copper while the post is made of anodised aluminum.
On Board
The new Manhattan 53 features elegant sporty lines following the designing outlook of her successful predecessors. She comes in two different versions and at first glance (we haven’t seen her on water yet) this yacht seems ideal for longer stays on board and middle-to-wide range trips thanks to her high range at cruising.
The interior has been carefully designed sending forth a sense of balanced luxury. On entering we find the living room area while at the fore there is the prettiest point of the entire yacht: the cockpit with the two leather seats. Apart from being aesthetically pleasing, the cockpit is ergonomically designed offering good visibility to the skipper. Let’s not forget to mention that the ship yard also focuses on smart utilities -among other things- and i-pod technology which means that the entertainment facilities are fully compatible.
ANight @ Sea
The vessel features a total of 3 spacious cabins with an optional aft cabin for the crew. The Vip cabin is at the fore with the Guest cabin located centrally and the Master cabin near the centre making the best of the beam. The Master cabin features a double bed under which there is plenty of storage space.
