Greek Medal Haul at the ILCA 6 Masters World Championship 2026

The successful participation of the Greek sailors at the 2026 ILCA 6 Masters World Championship concluded with an impressive four-medal haul. The event came to an end on the evening of Sunday, June 7, with the closing ceremony held at the facilities of the organizing club, Kalamaki Nautical Club, at the New Marina of Alimos.

By winning two silver and two bronze medals, the Greek sailors proved that sailing has no age limits, competing alongside former Olympians and world champions.

In the Apprentices category, Greece celebrated three medals through Michalis Koulianos (3rd place), Malli Triantafyllia (2nd place among women), and Anna Agrafioti (3rd place among women).

"I am deeply moved by what I experienced at this World Championship. I expected to perform well and dreamed of winning a medal. In the end, I succeeded and won the bronze medal," commented the sailor from Kalamaki Nautical Club.

Experienced sailor Anna Agrafioti was equally enthusiastic, emphasizing the event's motto:

"My preparation was carried out alongside athletes under the age of 20, which made me feel like the eldest member of the group. However, this championship proved that sailing has no age limit, which is also the event's motto. I was particularly moved to see people of advanced age competing passionately on the water and giving their absolute best. It has reignited my enthusiasm, and now I want a little more sailing in my life."

Malli Triantafyllia from Alimos Nautical Club had the opportunity to relive the good old days after many years away from international competition.

"I had an absolutely wonderful time and I am thrilled. The organization was perfect, and it is very important that we managed once again to raise the Greek flag at a World Championship. There is no greater feeling than seeing four Greek sailors celebrating with the Greek flag."

The fourth Greek medal, a silver, was won by Maria Vlachou in the Masters category.

"I could have won the gold medal as well, but overall I am satisfied with my performance in the championship. Congratulations to everyone involved in organizing this event," she stated.

During the closing ceremony, ILCA President Mark Lyttle thanked Kalamaki Nautical Club President Giorgos Christopoulos for the flawless organization of the championship and presented him with a commemorative plaque.

The ceremony was also attended by the Hellenic Sailing Federation's National Teams Director Giorgos Papastefanou and Attica Regional Director Giorgos Kamnis.

The 159 sailors, coaches, and accompanying personnel from 24 countries across five continents leave Greece with the best impressions, both from Greek hospitality and from the excellent organization of the championship on and off the water.
